Rules & Mechanics

IC ≠ OOC
Characters will not always get along with one another, however this does not mean that the players involved have actual animosity. IC reactions are not equal to OOC ones. Players are not to use their characters as a soapbox for their personal feelings towards another player. You are not your character.

PLAY NICE
All players are to treat each other with respect at all times. We want to foster a fun and creative environment without hurting or offending one another. You are asked to be polite and respectful when interacting with other players. Failure to behave in a polite manner will result in disciplinary action from the mods.

STAY IN CHARACTER
All characters are expected to be played in-character. You are of course welcome to explore your character and allow for development and growth, however changes to their personality need to come from a logical and plausible place.

GOD-MODING/INFOMODDING/SELF-THREADING/FOURTH-WALLING
God-Moding- At no time may you ever control another player's character without their permission.
Infomodding- OOC knowledge may not be used ICly. Your knowledge that Darth Vader is Luke's father is not permission for your character to tell Luke Skywalker this. Likewise, your personal knowledge that Hannibal Lecter is a serial killer is not permission for your character to know this on sight.
Self-Threading- You are expected to interact with other people while playing in Event Horizon. Threads that consist only of you are not acceptable for activity. Solo logs are welcome, however they may not be used for activity purposes.
Fourth-Walling- You may not ever fourth-wall another character without the express permission of all players involved. Even if your character ICly would know that Bruce Wayne is Batman, you must ask permission from the Batman player before revealing such knowledge to Batman himself, or to any of the Robins or to the Joker, etc.

CHARACTER LIMITS
The limit for characters is five. If a player passes activity with all of their characters without exemption, they are permitted to apply for more, granted they seek mod permission.

ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
Activity consists of two of any of the following per month:
1- Posting in the main community
2- A thread in the main community of fifteen (15) comments or more
3- Participation of three (3) comments or more in the logs community

Your character must participate in at least one piece of activity during each in game week (2:1 scale, two real weeks equals one week in game.)  Forward and backdating are acceptable, but no one should be on extended autopilot.

Activity checks will be posted the last week of every month and it is up to each player to post their proof of activity within seven days. If you fail activity, you may go onto warning status, which means you may stay in the game provided you can provide three pieces of activity the following month. If you fail activity for two consecutive months you will automatically be dropped from the game.

HIATUSES
A hiatus of seven consecutive days or longer exempts you from having to make activity. You may hiatus up to two months in a row before you must either make activity again or be dropped from the game.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY
If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please contact the mod team. We will work together to rectify any situations as they arise.

THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT
If you've repeatedly broken any of the above rules, you may be issued a strike. You will always be personally notified when a strike is issued. You may be issued up to two strikes before your third strike will result in banishment. Once you are banned from the game, you are permanently banned. Ban-worthy offenses include: repeated instances of harassment, lying to moderators, repeated posting of content lacking proper label, creating an unfriendly playing atmosphere, failure to change behavior that resulted in previous strikes being issued.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME
Event Horizon is welcome to all players, from experienced roleplayers to newbies testing the waters. All prospective players will be given an opportunity to play, including those who may have a less than stellar reputation. That said, the mod team reserves the right to issue preemptive strikes to players whose past actions include proof of inappropriate behavior such as harassment, god-moding, or rule breaking.
